The Other Half

So I actually did it! I ran my first half marathon. The race was called The Other Half and took place in a the canyon outside of Moab. It was so beautiful and an awsome experience. My friend Heather trained and ran it together. And since it was in Moab our husbands decided to come and we made it a fun weekend getaway. We left the kids with the grandparents and headed out.

We got there late on Friday night because of a flat tire. Woke up on Sat. had breakfast and headed out on a day long 4 wheeler ride. Dustin was excited to play with his new toy. We also rented a ranger so we all could ride. There 6 of us. Ryan (Heathers husband) had been to Moab before and took us on a trail that he said was not very hard but it was. I was scared almost the entire time but it was still really fun.

And Sunday was race day. Woke up about 5:30. Got to the shuttle @ 6:30. Stood in the freezing cold waiting for the shuttle (w/short shorts on) till about 7:30. Race started at 8:30. The scenery was breathtaking. I got hyped up on caffeine and had a great run. Any thing else?. . . .
Oh yeah I finished!! I think I got a pretty good time even with a bum knee, and I will definatly do it again.

Girls weekend!

I went to hang out in Boston again with my dear friend Sarah and her family. Dustin had has golf trip so I thought it was only fair that I had a girls weekend. I found some cheap tickets to Boston and then I was off. I always have a great time when I get together with Sarah It sucks that she lives clear across the country! Well we went on a Duck Boat Tour through Boston. We drove around the city looking at some sights then drove straight into the Charles River and then looked at some more sights. It was really fun! Then of course after we went and did some shopping downtown. The rest of the weekend we just hung out did more shopping and spent some time at the beach (brr kind of cold!). It was the end of August but there was some remnant's of a hurricane coming up the coast.  I call it a girls weekend because her wonderful husband took some time off to let us girls just hang out for a few days. I had a great time and thank our great friends for letting me come and hang out with them!

Should I feel Guilty?

Last week was Carson's first day of preschool.  He was so excited to go and I was excited for him to go. Well the first day came and he put on his back pack and said "k mom its time". We got there and he ran in and started playing with the kids. He didn't even care that I was there. I finally went over to him and said "ok honey I am leaving" and tried to hug him. He looked at me and and said "ok bye!". No hug he was to busy playing with the kids. I left and I thought hmmm my baby is growing up and obviously doesn't need me as much anymore. Should I cry? Should I be upset? What am I going to do with him gone for a couple hours? PARTY!!!! I think I was just as excited as he was for him to start going to school. He absolutely loves going so it makes me happy to send him. So the question is should I feel guilty for not crying? Or even for not feeling sad?

God Bless College Football!

In the words of my wonderful husband "God bless college football"! Yes it is that time of year. I admit that I do not feel the same way. But when we woke up on saturday and say his face it was like Christmas morning. Because it makes him happy I act like I enjoy it too. I grew up in a house of girls and my dad wasn't into sports, so I had never seen this side of men. I have to say ever since I got married I have learned a lot about football. It looks like it going to be a good year! Go Cougars!

High on a mountain top....

At the top!

My family (mom, dad, sisters and bro.-in-law) and I decided to hike to Mt Timpanogos Cave this past weekend. This was my first time and did not know that it was kind of a hard hike. I mean practically strait up hill. I am on a training schedule and ran 5 miles that morning (stupid!) and then did the hike. But to be honest I made it up fine, down was the killer. After making it up and walking through the cave I was exhausted, so was Carson. He made me carry him all the way down the mountain. Though I was really proud of him because he walked all the way up he mountain by himself. He thought the cave was really cool (he was scared at first because it was dark). Dustin stayed home with Afton because she was sick and it was a good thing, she would have wined the whole time and would not have enjoyed it at all. It was rough but we did have a good time. Needless to say we will not be doing it anytime soon (at least not w/kids!).

They call this the "Heart" of the cave.
(it looks like a heart, right?)

Super Heroes and New Boots!

So Carson can make anything into a weapon or something for a super hero. He found these and of course they are rocket boosters. And Afton has to do the same thing. I just thuoght they were cute running around the house (oops I mean flying around).

My mom bought Afton these boots even before she was born. We thought that they might fit her about the time she was two. Well her feet suddenly grew about 2 sizes so we decided to see if they fit. And they do! She absolutely loved them and would not take them off (not even to put pants on!).
